New Bin Hubs – Replacing Red Sacks

A Simpler, Cleaner Way to Recycle

We’re making recycling easier for residents in Blackpool with new Bin Hubs in selected areas, which contain four bins to enable residents a new way to separate waste.

This is part of the Government’s New Simpler Recycling Legislation.

What’s Happening?

On Monday, 29th September 2025, over five days, new Bin Hubs were introduced.

These hubs will:

  • Replace red sacks and allow the household to recycle
  • Be located close to the property
  • Provide clear signage on each bin to inform what goes where
  • There will be no specific collection date; these hubs allow the resident to dispose of household waste at any time
  • An indoor food caddy will be supplied with liners for easy food waste disposal
  • These bins are for residents onlynot for businesses

This will help shape the future of waste and recycling in Blackpool – your participation is key!

What Goes in the Bin Hubs?

  • Paper & Card: Newspapers, magazines, cardboard, packaging, envelopes, windowed and non-windowed (any colour), plain greeting cards and junk mail
  • Recycling: Mixed glass, bottles, jars, plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays, foil trays, and aerosols
  • Food: Tea bags, coffee grounds, fruit and veg peelings, inedible food, and leftovers
  • General Waste: Non-recyclables only – no hazardous waste, electronics, or food

Do not use these bin hubs for business waste. These bins are strictly for residential use.

What Will They Look Like?

Below is an illustration of the bin hub units; each unit will have clear signage for what goes where.
